Hodgdon & Beckett (1984) reported correlations near r ≈ 0.87–0.90 vs hydrostatic weighing in development samples, with standard errors of estimate around ~4 percentage points. Field measurement error, non-average body shapes, ethnicity-related distribution differences, pregnancy, and older adults can widen real-world disagreement.
